Hornbeam – The Spark of Energy
Reading time: 2 minutes
In this post I’ll be taking a look at the Hornbeam Bach Flower remedy and why it might be important.
Do you sometimes find that your ‘get up and go’ has just ‘got up and gone’?
Or, do you feel that it’s difficult to get started in the morning?
These are feelings that I’m sure we’ve all experienced, especially during the winter months when the days are so short.
Right now, as I’m writing this post, I’ve got in front of me my list of New Year’s resolutions that I wrote out so earnestly at the beginning of January. Have I made much progress? Well, to be honest, I can’t put a tick by all of my resolutions – I just haven’t made as much progress as I would have liked – sometimes it feels just like a bit too much hard work.
So, I think some Hornbeam might help.
So, Why Hornbeam?
Hornbeam is one of the 38 homeopathic flower remedies that Dr Bach discovered. It’s within a group of remedies that he called ‘Uncertainty’ and more recently this group of remedies has been renamed ‘Know Your Own Mind’. The other remedies in this group are Cerato, Gentian, Gorse, Scleranthus and Wild Oat, but let’s return to Hornbeam.
Hornbeam has been found helpful by many, in situations where we are mentally, as opposed to physically, tired. It’s this lack of mental energy or enthusiasm that Hornbeam focuses on.
As the Bach Flower author and practitioner Julian Barnard notes[1], the Hornbeam tree is inconspicuous and little known, but when the tree is in flower, it is a ‘magnificent display of force, vitality and colour’. It’s this sudden burst of colour and energy that sums up so well the benefits of this flower remedy.
To take an example, we might think about using Hornbeam in our remedy mix when we find that we’ve just been putting things off – like my New Year’s resolutions list!
We could very well call Hornbeam the ‘Monday morning feeling flower’ – it helps to give us that boost of enthusiasm, that extra motivation, that we might need to get things going.
Some of the positive outcomes that could come from taking the Hornbeam Bach Flower remedy are:
- More energy and enthusiasm
- A lift in confidence
- Doing things today as opposed to putting things off until tomorrow
- Feeling excited by new opportunities
- Getting a feeling of fulfilment in our lives.
It’s important to remember that, firstly, there are other Bach Flower Remedies that can help to tackle lack of energy, such as Olive and, secondly, that there might be other feelings to address too to help get that energy going again, which is why it can be a good idea to talk to a qualified Bach Flower Practitioner.
