The 38 Bach Flower Remedies
The Bach Flower Remedies

The Bach Flower Remedy System was devised by a medical doctor – Dr Bach – in the 1920s and 1930s. Dr Bach discovered that the personality of an individual was the most important consideration, when helping someone, either physically or emotionally. His System aimed to address negative emotions that when left untreated, led to ‘dis-ease’. Before the development of the Bach Flower Remedies, Dr Bach was a successful doctor having his own Harley Street, London, practice. He discovered the first three remedies (Impatiens, Clematis and Mimulus) in 1928 and he was so excited with the results that he decided to give up his Harley Street practice, which earned around £270,000 in today’s values, to concentrate solely on the development of his Flower Remedy System. His finished the discovery and development of all 38 remedies in 1935 and he died in his sleep one year later.

Dr Bach’s Philosophy

Dr Bach believed that when our emotions were balanced, we would have more enjoyment and harmony in our lives as well as good health. Importantly, Dr Bach’s vision was to ensure that people were treated as individuals and ultimately, given an understanding of how to manage their everyday emotions themselves, by using the Bach Flower Remedy System.

The System is pure, simple, timeless and complete. It is safe to take with all forms of medication and can be used by children and animals too. The remedies work on current feelings and emotions and using the remedies has been likened to ‘peeling the layers of an onion’, starting with the top or outer layer first. The starting point is simply how you are feeling today.
