Autumn and the Bach Flower Remedies
The leaves have turned yellow and Summer has become a distant memory. As some say that the seasons can affect us, so what feelings and thoughts could the winds of Autumn bring to us and could the Bach Flower Remedies help?
The Autumn Equinox
Traditionally, the beginning of Autumn is marked by the Equinox, the time when day and night are of equal length. In Celtic terms, this is a festival called Mea’n Fo’mhair; a positive time to reflect on our personal harvest; what we have achieved personally during the year and to plan, with new wisdom, for our next harvest.
This year, the Autumn Equinox fell on 22nd September, so we are now well into the clutches of Autumn and Winter is just a few weeks away. The ever-shortening days can make it sometimes difficult to look back positively at what we have achieved and plan for an even better personal harvest in the year to come.
Bach Flowers and Autumn
Everyone is of course affected differently, but here are just a few ideas of how Bach Flower Remedies can help us to look forward, now Autumn is here, to a positive and better future.
Gorse: It’s interesting that Gorse is one of the few flowers that we can see at most times of the year. Even in deepest Winter, there are those bright yellow flowers to be found, sometimes hiding in the snow. When I talk about the positive benefits of Gorse as a Bach Flower Remedy, I always introduce it as ‘the flower that brings sunlight into our lives’. And that really summarises the positive benefits of this flower remedy; it can help bring hope and light into the deepest darkness.
Hornbeam: As the evenings draw in and the mornings get darker, sometimes we just lose a little bit of that ‘get up and go’ feeling. Just the thought of doing something might be a challenge and all that motivation that we had last Spring might seem to have melted away. Hornbeam, as a Bach Flower Remedy, is there to help give us some of that ‘get up and go’!
Wild Oat: Going back to the Celtic festival of Mea’n Fo’mhair, this is a time of course, to prepare for the Winter, but also, I like to think, to reflect on our ambitions and to plan for the coming year. The remedy Wild Oat can help us, if we need it, to find ambition and future direction in our lives.
Wild Rose: In addition to tiredness, the shorter days might sap our motivation, leading us just to want to ‘go with the flow’. At times like this, the remedy Wild Rose might help us to take ownership of our lives and to step ahead, overcoming any feelings of resignation or ‘drifting’.
Just a few examples …
